About Us

The Butte Parent Cafe is a brand new take on the old saying, "It takes a village to raise a child". With that said, here at Valley Oak Children's Services and the Butte Parent Cafe program we like to put our own spin on it. For us, we also know it takes a village to support the parents as well. The Butte Parent Cafe is a way for the community to come together is a safe, comfortable and relaxed setting. While there are many parenting classes filled with instruction and ways to make parents feel inadequate, we focus on conversations among peers that focus on our strengths. Our motto of "focusing on whats strong and not whats wrong" is lived and practiced.  We all come from different backgrounds and experiences that make us who we are. There is not one formula to parenting just like there is not a how to book for parenting. Through guided conversations focusing on the Five Protective Factors, parents are able to share what they do, how they do it, and why they do it. Through conversations with other parents, we get to learn through shared experiences as parents. You are invited to join us for a great community style dinner, great conversation and childcare all taken care of by us. All we ask of you is to give us your time and share your experiences. There is no shame, no talk of bad parents, no unwanted advice and no disrespect. You are invited to join our Butte Parent Cafe Family.
